Are you feeling excited about starting to quilt, but a bit overwhelmed by how much there is to learn?
We hear the same thing from so many people who visit the New Quilters blog: "I'd really like to make a quilt, but I don't know where to start. What if I get stuck? What if I make dumb mistakes? What if my quilts turn out looking ugly?
Learning to quilt can definitely feel intimidating... but we're here to help make it easy
We remember very well how overwhelming quilting can feel when you're a beginner.
There are so many different kinds of quilts you can make! So many fabrics and colors to choose from! So many new techniques to master! So many strange-looking tools and supplies you've never heard of!
How do you get started without getting frustrated and giving up, or spending a fortune on expensive classes, or making quilts you just aren't happy with?
Luckily, we have a solution. After nearly ten years of blogging about quilting and answering pleas for help from new quilters, we decided to write a book that brought together all the questions we'd answered and all the tips and tricks we'd learned in our years at the sewing machine.
The result is A Beginner's Guide to Quilting, the guide to making your first quilts the fun and easy way.

About the Author, Christine Mann
I’m a self-taught quilter. In other words, I made my first quilts without having the least idea what I was doing. The first quilt I ever made was a purple twin-sized bed quilt. I bought a bunch of precut purple squares on eBay and wrestled that thing together by trial and error. I don’t even want to tell you how many mistakes I made.
But what a thrill it was to finish that first quilt, mismatched seams and all! The joy of playing with fabric and of making a one-of-a-kind gift for my daughter got me hooked.
Mistakes? I've made a few...
Learning the basics of quilting took me a long time. I made just about every error a quilter can make. I even made a few ugly quilts -- not too many, thank goodness! I made some quilts I was proud of, too. I love going to a friend's house and seeing a quilt I made on a bed or on the family room sofa.
Later, I went to work as a writer for a publisher of quilting books. I learned much more about quilting from working with some of the best quilters in the world. I started blogging about quilting, and moved from there to writing books for new quilters.
Still a new quilter in spirit
Feeling has brought me a lot of wonderful moments. I never forgot how it felt to be just starting out feeling overwhelmed by how much I had to learn. That’s what inspired me to write Quilts for Beginners and my other books for quilters. Yes, I learned to quilt the hard way. But there's no reason why you should have to do it that way. I want to help you keep from repeating my newbie mistakes? It's my pleasure to help you learn to quilt the fun and easy way.
