I’ve had a pile of four-inch purple squares lying around my quilting room for a long, LONG time. Making a scrappy quilt out of them is a kind of spring cleaning. It also reminds me of the very first quilt I ever made, a twin bed-sized quilt made from identical purple squares (I had no idea what I was getting into!) In fact, a few of these patches are from that very first pile of quilt squares, which I bought on Ebay. Even then, I liked buying fabric without having any idea what I would use it for.
The first step was laying out the squares in a more-or-less light/dark pattern:
Then I sewed them into a top:
This top is still a little small to make a truly cozy lap quilt, so I’m going to add borders from this butterfly fabric, which I found several yards of at the thrift store for a dollar a yard.
You can see a lot of other people’s quilts at this week’s Work in Progress Wednesday on Freshly Pieced.
