Wondering how you can use that layer cake precut package you just bought? There are lots of different ways to cut it up for use in quilts and sewing projects.

1. Four 5″ squares

The finished size of the squares will be 4-1/2″ when sewed into a quilt. blank

2. Eight 2-1/2″ squares

The finished size of the squares will be 2″. blank

3. Nine 3″ squares

The finished size of the squares will be 2-1/2″. You will have an extra 1″ strip on two sides of the square (shown in the diagram in gray.) blank

3. Five 2″x 10″ strips

The finished size of the strips will be 1-1/2″ x 9-1/2″. blank

4. Two half-square triangles

Sew together two triangles to make a 9″ half-square triangle block. blank

5. Four quarter-square triangles

Sew together four triangles to make a 8-1/2″ quarter-square triangle block. blank

6. Eight half-square triangles

Cut the block in half vertically and horizontally, then cut again diagonally from top to bottom corners to make eight small triangles. Sew together two triangles to make a 4″ half-square triangle block. blank
