Quilters, start where you are
“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” Someone posted this saying recently in a Facebook business group I belong to. I was inspired by the simplicity of the idea.
Then I came upon this photo of an American soldier repairing uniforms in Iraq, and saw instantly how well the saying and the photo fit together.
What does the saying mean for you as a quilter? Just this: you don’t need perfect quilting skills. You don’t need all the most expensive tools and gadgets. You don’t have to dedicate every waking moment quilting (although we would all understand if you do!) Just quilt what you can with the fabric, the thread, the sewing machine, and the quilting room you have. Whatever you make will be plenty!
I’m working on my PHD in sewing – Projects Half Done
Love it, Mamone! We’re going to make a version of it with a photo and post it on our funny memes page.
And here it is…
I learned very early on that it is not what you have, it is how what you have is used. I sewed for 46 years using ONLY mechanical sewing machines. I recently traded up to a computerized machine because I am learning machine embroidery. During these next 8 years I want to develop long-arm quilting skills, so by the time I retrire from my day job, I can pick up with long-arm services.
Very true, Jean. I love your plans. A friend of ours who has a long-arm machine just moved it into our barn, so there’s a chance I will be joining you in learning how to quilt with a long-arm.
